That author has written at least two with trans MCs, but I haven't read Being Emily just yet.
The domestic violence stuff was... yeeg. A little too close to home? But, hey, IIRC it laid out some pretty classic patterns, so... not actually a bad thing to learn in your mid-teens. :-\
