Tarot-a-Go-Go, OR: Mother of the Night, How Did You Swing This One? :-)
Okay.
So, I did my tarot reading.
But there is back-story.
See. Having (as mentioned earlier) joined tarotfic, I decided to take all of my Major Arcana out of my deck, the better to randomly pick a first card to write on.
(The card was 'star', by the way).
Anywhoo.
My deck was fairly well mixed (and fairly evenly spread in terms of right-side-up/upside-down) before I did that. So, when I put the MAs back into the deck I tried to space them out fairly evenly in order to prevent a sudden cluster of Major Arcana in the spread I was about to do for myself.
Having done that, I shuffled the deck a whole big bunch.
Then I did my reading.
Despite my previous statement of "I treat this like a fun game and don't take it seriously"... I still have to wonder after getting a Grand Cross spread like this:
CARD 1: "Where I Am Now": The Hanged Man (right side up)
CARD 2: "Helpers/Hinderers": The Sun (right side up? Tipped to the right)
CARD 3: "The Best I Can Do Right Now": The Empress (upside down)
CARD 4: "Hidden Factors Around Me": Knight of Cups (right side up)
CARD 5: "Effects of the Past": Wheel of Fortune (right side up)
CARD 6: "My Next Move": Temperance (right side up)
CARD 7: "How I See Myself": Page of Cups (upside down)
CARD 8: "How Others See Me": The Star (right side up)
CARD 9: "Hopes and Fears": Queen of Cups (right side up)
CARD 10: "Outcome": Ten of Cups (right side up)
Now, for those of you who read these things regularly enough to get something out of this, I would *love* to hear your interpretations.
I would interpret this as follows:
(A) That upcoming wedding? Apparently it's a major enough life-changing-event to effects random bits of cardboard with no brain.
Which is interesting. :-)
(B) I am so not surprised that poverty is rearing its ugly but not unexpected head in this spread. :-)
So...
1) The Hanged Man = Me Now... Well, Being as Paul and I are common-law, we're kind of in a limbo-state of married-yet-not-yet-married (which is a fun palindrome-esque set of words, isn't it?) So waiting for the wedding to arrive is one part of the 'hanging around' side of this card. Also, I'm waiting on aproval from my advisor regarding my proposal -- which, once it's aproved, will allow me to move on and do my comps and get on with my actual thesis. So that's another 'hanging around' bit.
2) The Sun = What's Helping Me... Well, according to my handy little book, the Sun "can predict happy love relationships" (ding) (also the birth of a child -- although unless we're talking the metaphorical birth of my thesis-baby, then not for a while yet... although yes, eventually. :-) Alegedly "whatever [I] embark upon now will be blessed with good fortune and support".
However, since this card is on its side, rather than actually up or down, the reversed meaning says: worry about health, children, and projects. Projects: School again, "beset by delays", yes. So, yes, I'm going to go with "right side up" refers to my impending marriage, while "upside down" refers to my school situation (which, allegedly, will still improve, it will just take a little longer).
3) The Empress Reversed = What I Can Do... Well, again, according to my handy little book: "the mantle of poverty, rather than bliss, threatens the household". Well, that's no surprise. It does. Paul and I had another money-talk a few nights ago, and we're staring more debt and/or problems with bills, in the teeth. (Another Leave of Absense, I believe, is called for here... Plus that way I can do my field work without paying tuition to do it... The only trick is getting my comps out of the way before May).
4)Knight of Cups = Hidden Factors... Well, this one is obviously Paul, even if he isn't exactly hidden. He's definitely a factor (and the description suits him, as well as making reference to this fellow being 'fond' of me... Hello, duh. ;-) On the plus side: I know what he's offering me. :-)
5) Wheel of Fortune = The Past... Well, aside from my thinking that this is kind of a weird card to get for "the past"... My handy little book talks about the workings of destiny "that will transform [my] whole way of thinking and living"... Which, given that Paul was sent to me by the Gods (specifically Makaa, who does have her hand in the cauldron of fate, since she's the Goddess of Crossed Paths, etc), I would say that this is another reference to my marriage. :-)
6) Temperance = My Next Move... So... Again, with the handy little book: It talks a lot about chemistry, and making sure to get the right balance. Which can be interpreted (in light of the whole marraige thing) as "compromise is key". Which it is. :-)
Also, given that the card has some connection with book-balancing, I can view it in light of the fact that I'm trying to juggle both my Mom, and Paul's Parents, when it comes to funding this wedding -- and they're being so great about it, I should add -- and also, once again, in light of our impending decent into really-feeling-it poverty. Hm... But yeah. Accurate given the current situations. :-)
7) Page of Cups, Reversed = How I See Myself... I was actually expecting "Queen of Cups, Reversed" to turn up here. But more on that later.
Well, I can't say I'm too surprised to see this turn up as "you see yourself negatively". And I do worry that I behave like that (snipy and whiny and "but what about *meeee*" all the time... to the point that (I hope) I'm over-compensating by not acting like that... Not that I'm right, mind you. ;-) But yeah. (And I *am* very emotional, and insecure about stuff, so... not entirely out of wack on this one, either).
8) The Star = How Others See Me... Hehehe. That's very sweet of them. :-) "Imagination, ambition, creativity, and rebirth". Does that sound like me? Conscious and unconscious creativity, emotionally and physically energized, ready to make my dreams reality... Does that sound like me?
Kind of...
If it's accurate, it's really nice to hear. :-)
9) Queen of Cups = Hopes and Fears... Because she's right side up, I'm going to go with "hopes". (Although fears would definitely fit what she signifies when upside down, in terms of "what I fear to become"). Remember (if you read my last post) how I said that the Queen of Cups is the card that I would pick to represent me? Yeah. Compassionate, maternal, nurturing, insiteful, loving, and able to read her dreams (and maybe other peoples). This is what I want to be. (And, to some extent, probably am. If only because of the food I shove at people. ;-)
10) Ten of Cups = The Outcome... Wow. I don't think I could have asked for a better outcome that this. :-)
"Complete contentment and good relationships on every level. Wonderful accord between families, lovers, and friends. This peace is stable and lasting, and you feel confident enough truly to enjoy the benefits. The Ten is also an auspicious card for great group activities".
:-)
Well.
If I'd been needing reassurance that this union is the right one... :-) (And, hey, the wedding will -- in theory -- be fun for all. Excellent. :-)
So. That's my interpretation. :-)
I'd love to hear what you-all have to say. :-)
