Okay, thing one, is that I'm just making guesses here, but here goes.:

1) I don't think that people are asking to have Sharia Law instituted in Ontario to (A) Stone Women to Death for Adultery, or (B) Take over the Ontario law system as part of the Islamic Conspiracy (tm).

2) I do suspect that it's more likely that people would like to see Sharia Law instituted in Ontario because some folks have more than one wife (perfectly okay under Sharia Law, not so much under Ontario Law) and they would like to have their dental benefits (or what-have-you) extended to cover Wife #2 and her kids as well as Wife #1 and the children thereof.
Get me?

That being said:

3) It still creeps me out all to hell because I *really* don't like the idea of having one set of laws for one set of people, and another set of laws for another set of people. Right?
This is why we said "Yes" to Gay Marriage, yes? Because having one set of laws for one set of people, and another set of laws for another set of people is dumb. It's totally not equal, and a lot of people can get screwed because of it.
So, I don't want Sharia law in Ontario.
That being said, I do like the idea of medical benefits being extended to all family members, not just some of them. (I epect that there are at least a couple of Poly People reading this who might agree with me on that one).
Perhaps something can be worked out here?
Any thoughts? :-)

In other news:
I have an ear infection. (TMI?)
This is somewhat painful, but mostly just *really* annoying. (I can't hear much out of my right ear, for example).
This being said, what's even worse than the ear infection is the fact that the medication for said ear infection cost me frikken fourty-two dollars and change.
I can't bloody afford that! >:-\

So, I must hit the GSAED office on Monday and say, "Hey, I've got this reciept for antibiotics, and I need to submit it to the U of O student health coverage plan. How do I do that?" And hopefully they will give me back a good $20. That would be nice. :-)

On a similar note:
Due to our current financial problems, I am putting about 2/3 of our wedding fund (a very measly (sp) $200) into my bank account so that I can cover the hydro bill and the August mortgage cheque.

I still haven't been allowed to apply for a TA job.
Which is a problem.
A big problem.

See, right now, I'm basing all of our financed around the fact that I'm not making a living wage, and also that we have no tenant in our basement room.

Now, we may *get* a tenant. (A tenant with a mini van who could, in theory, help us transport the stuff currently sitting in said basement room to a second hand store of our choosing, which would be good for all of us).
This would give us an extra $300+/month as long as he was here.
Which would help a *lot*, and also help make up for my lack of a TA job.

Also, I *may* get a TA-ship. However, this is looking less and less likely.
That being said, I don't want to give up on it, because it's the best gig going as far as student employment is concerned: It pays me a semi-living wage for a fairly small amount of hours worked. Which means I actually have (some) time to devote to my thesis work. Which is kind of the point, yes? ;-)

However, currently, I have neither of these things, which means I'm looking at what's in my bank account ($500 as of Friday, the 9th), and going:
"Shoot. I've got $864 worth of mortgage payments this month, on top of needing another bus pass, they hydro bill needs paying, all the other bills need paying. And: look at this, even when I've added in the $45 from our driveway rental, and the $80 from Paul's latest book sales, as well as the $200 from the wedding fund, *and* the $200 from my *next* paycheque... I'm still $440 short of where I should be to cover all of this stuff -- and that's not counting groceries."

So. $440. That's just over the amount required for the second mortgage payment. (Three cheers for the Bank of Mom, might I add).

Now, I grant you, this problem could be deffered slightly, if not actually solved, by paying only the minimum payment on the Master Card and dealing with bus tickets, instead of a pass, for the first week or so of October.
Or, for that matter, asking the Bank of Mom to hold on September's payment until October 3rd (or, possibly, 10th, depending on when Paul makes his monthly contribution to the household funds), by which time I should actually know whether or not I have a TA-ship and/or a Tenant and everything will be fine or totally-screwed (and I'll be looking for full-time work).

Anyway. So that's the update on my financial crisis. (Not much of a crisis, I realize, but there it is).

I'm off to put more drops in my ears. (Yay...)
