Okay,
So the fire-alarm yesterday?
The hallway was full of smoke when I opened the door.
Yes, my building was actually on fire.
I dressed fast, pulled on my coat, threw my laptop and a pair of work-appropriate shoes into a bag, and left the building.
1) thank goodness my sister lives four blocks from my house.
2) thank goodness I have keys to Sara's place, even though I didn't make use of them yesterday, since my sister turned out to be home.
3) I now know exactly which one object is worth enough to me to stay an extra minute or two in a burning building in order to save.
This will make down-sizing significantly easier, I have to say. ;-)
4) on a similar note: Gee, it'd be a lot easier to pick up and move to a different city if I litterally only had the clothes on my back, wouldn't it?
Anyway. Other than the phoneline having been burned through (dammit!), everything is fine.
The same thing happened again this morning, though -- at about 10:15am. So I'm at Umi checking email and so-on. I'll be going back home (to my almost certainly fine appartment -- the walls between apartments *are* made of cement, so I'm not exactly worried about this) in about half an hour.
I think I'll make hot-and-sour soup today or something. :-)
- TTFN,
- Allison. :-)
