The Singing of the Merry Lark, the Turning of the Year... :-D

So, last night (though late - for me), was pretty awesome. :-)

I read "The Night Before Christmas" to everyone (at quarter to midnight, so it was a speedy read) - no Cat on the Doverfell, alas, but oh well. :-)

We ate many, many cookies (as is our wont on xmas eve).

I snuck out at about 3:15am to stuff stockings.
Had to repair the tree ornaments I made (note: dental floss? Comes un-knotted far too easily).

The home-made presents went over very well. :-)

Chris *really* liked her necklace (Fancy jasper - a super-long string of it that she can turn into a triple-string, if she wants). My mom really liked her bag, too. Yes! :-D

Everyone liked their CDs and their DVDs, which is wonderful (that's mostly what I got people - ripped-and-burned CDs and previously-viewed movies).

Paul likes his new pants, too. (Phew!) And he likes the Cradle of Filth CD. (It's become something of a tradition. I think I've gotten him Cradle for the past three years. with any luck, they will continue to release new material on a yearly basis. ;-)

Paul got me a printer! :-D Which is also a scanner and copier! :-D (I can print my own damn resumes now! Woohoo! :-D And I can scan in my fashion drawing and so-on! Woohoo! :-D Life is wonderful! :-D

He also got a copy of "The Hogfather" (DVD) - hurrah! And a CD of a band called Paramour, which should be good, and a 2-CD metal opera, which should be AWESOME! :-D

I am very, very excited. :-D

He's checking to see if the malachite I put in his stocking gives him any kind of a charge. Here's hoping that (A) yes, and (B) it's a good one. :-D
[EDIT: It IS! :-D Triumph! He took it out of the little bag and held it in his hand, and he got this big smile on his face and said "It's giving me energy". Woohoo! So the schola class was a success, and I picked the right stone! Woohoo! :-D)

There was a gorgeous picture of The Morrigan (I think my Mom got it for me because it looks very Goth, what with the raven wings and the raven itself, and the sword so-on) in my stocking, which is just, well, gorgeous. It will go on my wall. But I'm not sure where yet. Possibly in the office. :-D

My brother made me a hand-bound book for me to write recipes and spells in. It's very pretty and Ye-Olde looking (it made me think of Uncle Gerald. ;-)
I shall have to write all my Solstice recipes in it, with all their thematic correspondences written in. ;-)

My mom gave me and my sister each Snake Plant. Which, hopefully, I will manage not to kill. It's very cute, and I like it. :-)

My sister went *crazy* with the presents. She made us Quebecois sugar pie (which I think will be coming over to my aunt-in-law's for xmas dinner tonight) *and* cookies *and* pickled asperagus (which is really good!) *and* bags with our names embroidered on them. Wow! :-D
She went *crazy*. :-D

My mom (and Andrew), in addition to re-covering Paul's familial chairs (which now look gorgeous and classy and match our dining room chairs), gave us heirloom pillow-cases (hand-painted by my great-grandmother), and a long pillow made of navy blue Thai silk - with gold tassels on the corners and a print of golden elephants (my mom collects elephants, so we will always remember who it came from).
She and Andrew also gave us a package of opium incense, a candle-holder (with three candles in it) and a burnt CD of flute music. :-D

I put a little red and gold elephant hanging in my mom's stocking. She liked it. :-) She's got well over 200 elephants in her collection. Quite the herd. ;-)

Uhm... Oh, and Paul and I collectively have $125 worth of amazon gift cards. :-) This should be fun. :-)

So, all in all, a really excellent haul for all involved. :-D

I *am* rather disappointed that my brother didn't get anything for Paul, and that my sister made stuff for us to 'share' (even though Paul can't really eat the pie, or the pickles - the cookies are probably okay though). Still, hopefully they'll start remembering soon. :-)

In other news:
More co-opting of xian music:

O Holy Night!
Her stars are brightly shining,
Her face alight, in the darkness she gleams.

Lit by Her light,
The Earth, below, reclining
Beneath the snow as she slumbers, she dreams...

A dream of hope,
The weary world is resting
Beneath the stars upon
This longest night.

Fall on your knees
O raise your voices, singing
To Night divine,
O Night, O holy Night...
O Night... Divine....
O Night, O Night divine.

BPAL IV:

Right wrist: Hecate:
Buttery almond, myrrh and dark musk.

The almond (by which I mean cherry-cough-syrup) is very strong in this one. I'm waiting for the myrrh to come out and cut through the sweetness, and
We shall see.
[EDIT: Yes, it dies down to a sweet, powdery scent fairly quickly. Not sure that this is a keeper. It's not bad by any stretch of the imagination, but there are others (Blood Kiss, Skuld, O) that offer similar hints without the overwhelming cherry at the beginning. So we'll see what happens with that one. It may end up in a swap. <*shrug*>

Left wrist: Mag Mell:
Amber, white ginger, verbena, green grass, sage, and 'summer rain'.

Oog. This one's definitely very citrus-perfume-y. I think that must be the verbena. And possibly the grass. It almost smells like... grapefruit crossed with geranium. You *can*, kind of, smell the warmth of the amber underneath it all after it dries down quite a bit, but mostly it's citrus-and-geraniums, which isn't a very good scent on me. Not bad, but not one I like very much.
Oh, well. It might work well on someone else, though. :-)

Side Note: Laudanum: It really does seem to be utterly forgettable. As in, I try to remember to smell it when it's on me, and it just slides right out of my mind. Which is *interesting*, but not overly helpful from a Review This Scent perspective. Hm. :-\

Anyway. We're going to be going to Paul's family home (and then to some of his relatives' houses, after that) in the next half hour or so, so I should sort a few things out before we head off. :-)
