Yeah, good thing to learn the signs for, especially if you can get it without having to go through it yourself. (I didn't realize it had been like that with your first marriage...eegh. :/) And better to have it marked as bad news than romanticized, too.
Apparently Courtney Milan (whose historical romances are among the rare het I read these days) has a romance with a trans main character coming out soon. I think she was the best friend in a previous novel (contemporary romance), which I haven't yet read. She's done well with her secondary gay & lesbian characters in the historicals, so I'm curious to see how this will turn out.
