The Holly and the Ivy
Chorus:
The rising of the sun
And the running of the deer
The singing of the merry lark
The turning of the year
Verse 1:
The holly bears a berry
That is red as any flame.
When the snow is fall-ing on the ground,
Then wintertime has come.
V.2:
The holly bears a berry
That is black as any night.
Bu-ut we will sing ‘til the morning comes
A-calling back the light.
V.3:
The holly bears a berry
That is green as any pine.
When the night is gone and the morning comes,
The new sun will shine.
V.4:
The holly bears a berry
That is white as any snow
But the sun will rise, and the year will turn
A-and winter cold will go.

Know that the year-wheel’s [beat] Turning.
V.2:
Hearth-fire’s burning,
Keep it blazing high,
Outside the stars are
Shining in the sky.
Light a solstice candle,
Keep it standing by,
And wait for the sun to rise.
V.3:
Outside the window
Snow is thick and white;
Inside, the hearth-fire’s
Blazing, warm and bright.
Light a solstice candle,
On this Winter’s night;
And wait for the sun to rise.

A candle to call back
Ti do do re do.
The spring and the lark.
A candle is burning,
A light in the dark.
A candle of plenty,
Though winter is stark.
A candle is burning,
To keep the light here.
A candle to brighten
The dark of the year.
A candle is burning,
As Winter’s begun.
A candle is burning
To Call back the Sun;
A candle is burning,
Its flame warm and bright,
A candle of hope
And a guide for the light.
A candle is burning
Its light bright and clear
A candle of courage,
Of joy and good cheer.
A candle is burning,
It takes only one
To call forth the light
And let darkness be done.

In other news: Today is my Really Big Grocery Run (I will be getting everything delivered. Whee!)
I will also be doing a bunch of cooking -- cookies, sauces, gnocchi, and a bunch of other stuff. :-)
The days are getting darker, for all that they are warm. (Isn't that creepy?) But there will be propper weather by Tuesday, and Snow by Thursday. I'm sure of it. :-)
