So. Equinox. And a full moon, on top of it all.
I've been thinking of the Moon Viewing Parties that they had (and, I think, still have(
?)) in Japan.
I got back from Umi this evening, and met a woman in the lobby. She was carrying a bag of snacks (looked like candy, I think) in one hand, and lantern, an honest-to-fuck lit paper lantern. With a candle in it.
(Braver woman than I, I don't mind telling you).
I asked her what the occasion was, and she said "Full Moon".

And it made me smile, that we'd been thinking about the same thing. :-)

As such, have a poem. :-)

*~*~*~*~*

To the Moon

like pale silk
you rise
cresting the walk-ups
to shine full-faced
on a city graced
with street lamps
and flickering lanterns

people congregate on rooftops
swapping songs like
Moon River and
O Claire de la Lune
Someone plays a banjo in your honour

the sky deepens
dusky blue
shading to velvet night
darkness falls
and calls us all
to lean towards distant morning

between now and then
we'll remember the time when
wile away the evening and the wee small hours
with stories traded
like baseball cards

above it all
you'll sale
serene and queenly
your sites set westward
and your compass true
reflecting sun
on all and sundry
while we
o moon
while we
reflect on you
