Kintsukuroi - a Japanese word refering to broken pottery that has been repaired using gold laquer; it comes with the understanding that the object is more beautiful for having been broken.

YAY LANGUAGE! :-D
So. I am nowhere near done my costume for Unholy Harvest's opening night cabaret.
I mean, I'm a LOT closer than I was on Monday. But I've still got 2/3+ of a beaded-fringe skirt to finish. I think I can do it, since I won't be shopping for supplies tomorrow. But there's still a dozen strings of beads that I have to transfer to thread before I sew them onto the bottom hem of the harness. Plus dozens of mardigras-style beads to add AND (time allowing)space still to fill in between the fringe and the rest of the harness.

O.O

But I have to go to a meeting, and then be part of the cheering squad for Ghost while she's teaching this workshop tonight.

So I'm off.

I wrote a story today.

I wrote a STORY today!!! :-D

This is huge! It's even a good story! It came easily, and it's the right length, and I feel like it says something (and, okay, possibly it's saying something in a slightly too blatant way, but I can work on that) beyond "Characters get laid! YAY!".
I feel good about it.

I hope I continue to feel good about it during the editing process, and also that the anthology-editor I'm submitting it to loves it to bits and decides to publish it. <*fingers crossed*>

Feeling good about writing today. YAY! :-D

So. I was reading one of the articles on Yes Means Yes, and it linked to a couple of articles about the Open Source Boob Project. Which means I've spent the last two+ hours reading about the FAIL.

And now I wanna linkspam you all. (Lucky monkeys. ;-)

Hey, all.

So I was going to go to a party tonight at Lenny's place, but I'm actually pretty much zonked and will be heading to bed shortly after I post this.

Life modeling is... Interesting. Challenging (in terms of holding still for that long) and simple at the same time.
I like it.

I did something fairly stupid --> That is, I thought I had another five-minute pose to do, so I came up with something I could hold for five minutes. And then found out it was actually going to be a ten-minute pose.
And didn't change anything.

That was fairly foolish of me.
It involved having both my arms, but particularly my left one, above my head, unsupported.

Definitely foolish.

I held it for seven minutes and change (which was longer than I expect), but I don't think I'll be pulling that one again. :-P
My left shoulder was extremely displeased and, during the next pose (one that was much, much easier on me), my entire body was shaking like crazy.
Which, if nothing else, was interesting to see.

Here, have a picture (nowhere near the best of the bunch... that award probably goes to Hilde or Barbara), but one that was emailed to me by the fellow who hired me.

Photobucket

Hilde told me I was amazing, and very graceful, and complimented me on the complexity of my poses. (I'd made up a list of potential poses, which I went over before the session, but I ended up not really using it. Yay!)

The whole thing actually made me think of bondage -- the kind where you get your partner to hold a particular position. Not Leather protocols, just... required stillness.
I like that. Bondage without ropes or chains or shakles.

And, yeah. That was life modeling.
A space-heater would have been nice.

DIY Vampire "fingertips". Like vampire gloves, but using rubber "page-turner" thimbles instead of gloves.
How... handy. :-)
I may have to try that. :-)

A book review from Tiger Beatdown:
Hos, Hookers, Call Girls and Rent Boys -- An anthology I would like to read, in part because it looks at different types of sex work (and experiences of doing sex work) from the perspective of privilege.
E.G.: A university-educated gal who does escorting in a hotel room and chose the job from a wide variety of other options some of them similarily lucretive and/or flexible is going to have a significantly different experience from an under-educated gal who does escorting in a hotel room (or a street corner) and chose the job from a much smaller variety of other options most-of-which pay minimum wage.
A black rent-boy is going to be dealing with a very different set of client-assumptions and/or expectations than an asian rent-boy or a white rent-boy or what-have you.
Someone who strips to pay for school is going to have a much different view of her experiences (particularly the bad ones, if/when she has them) than someone who strips to pay for surgery/HRT who is going to have a much different view of her experiences (particularly the bad ones, if/when she has them) than someone who strips to pay for the drugs she hooked on, and so on and so forth.

Once again, I want to read this book.

Two articles from Fugitivus (which everyone should read. No seriously. EVERYONE):

A Few Things To Stop Doing When You Find a Feminist Blog -- Which is long and takes a look at The Status Quo, Privilege, Misogyny, Victimhood, and a whole big bunch of other stuff. There's even instructional videos. Go. Read. NOW.

AND

"Sure, A Woman Shouldn’t Be Raped For Wearing a Short Skirt, But If I Leave My Door Unlocked, It’s Only Reasonable To Expect I Will Be Robbed" and Why That Annalogy is So Totally Fucked that It Boggles the Mind -- About social responsibility, paying attention to the nasty things we secretly believe, and huge-assed disclaimers that confirm that you do, too, believe X.
Go read this one, too.

Followed by:

Harlot's Parlour -- A blog about sex work and sexuality from multiple international perspectives (started in the UK).

One Taste orgasmic meditation -- Eight Reflections on Intimacy. (My sweetie and I were looking at these while in NYC).

From Feministing:
The Rape Problem -- About university administration and victim-blaming/shaming.

AND

From Sex Geek:

Topping a Top -- about boundaries, respect, intimacy, vulnerability, and how the kink community treats dominant people vs submissive people. Dovetails nicely with this post by Naamah_Darling.

AND

The Logistics of Non-Monogamy. Good advice for those (like my good self) who are out of the harbour and starting to navigate the open (-relationship) ocean for the first (or not the first) time. :-)

In Other News: Making a vegetable stew tonight. It was such an autumny morning (I could see my breath and everything) that I felt a need to make something hearty for dinner. Granted, it's 8:30, I'm tired, and the stew is still pretty soupy. But I shall have a very hearty lunch tomorrow (and probably the next day) instead. :-)

Ingredients:

tamari
sesame oil
dash of chili powder
lots of savoury
some sage
dash of thyme
black pepper

garlic
green onions

water

Romano beans (tinned, but very well rinced and drained)
button mushrooms
yellow summer squash (small and cut into sliver-thin rounds)
sweet potato (1)
yukon gold potatoes (2)
nori (one sheet, roughly torn)
baby spinach (plus extra to add at the end)

I think it will be quite tasty. :-)

So... fully eight days later, I finally get this story edited and fixed up.

I wrote a piece of super-sensual, slightly romantic, BDSM erotica for Sara.

She thought it was wonderful - which just made my heart sing - but also said it was really clear that I'd never been flogged and, as such, had no idea what I was talking about when it came to describing what it's like to have an orgasm from flogging.

So I asked her, and she explained what that kind of climax feels like (for her, at least). And I've finally gotten around to re-writing that scene (and fixing a couple of other Issues) and so I'm posting it. :-)

The Scent of Cedar.

Concrit and fanmail are both eagerly saught out. :-)

Queer, Kinky and/or Poly Blogs (often also writerly):

No More Potlucks -- an Ottawa/Gatineau dyke blog.

Freaksexual -- first (currently) article is (A) long, and (B) about youth (as opposed to age) and poly organizing. So far, so interesting.

Radial Symmetry - The Blog of the Amazing and Delectable Megan Butcher.

AmandaEarl[DOT]Com - her new site, which includes poly stuff and writerly stuff, among other things. :-)

Radical Vulvas -- Ottawa Chapter. Keep your eye out for their August 14th show. :-)

Smut in the Capital City -- I posted this one a couple of days ago, but I'm putting it here, too. It's the blog of Rockalily co-founder Rawknee. Go take a look. :-)

Sex Geek - also local. Sweeeeeeeeeeet. :-D

In particular, take a look at:
Ten Realistic Rules for Good Non-Monogamous Relationships,
desperately seeking a hot bi babe (or, the politics of recruiting),
AND
On (not) Being Femme.

There will be posts talking about this stuff - particularly the last one - in a day or two.

For now, I need to get myself out for a walk and some writing.

- Amazon.
So, my girl got into Austin, Texas this afternoon. She's been out shopping for wedding gear with The Bride for-whom she is maid of honour. They're having a good time (trying to find a wedding dress on a budget. Yeek!)

Anyway. In theory she's gonna give me a call a little later when she's not out with her friend and can talk a little more. (I'm guessing around 7pm - that's her typical time to call -- although for all I know that means she'll be calling at, like, 9pm Ottawa time because of that).

But, anyway.

Random Event: My boss took me out to lunch today. We went to the Highlander. I have discovered that peppermint Schnapps is much gentler on the palate than is creme de menthe (note to self for future reference), and I had a mushroom-back!bacon-and-cheeses burger.
Which was pretty good, but not great. It's weird. I seem to be losing my taste for beef.
Bacon and some pork sausages are still fine and dandy. But, yeah. Cow seems to be tasting weird in my mouth of late. :-\
That said: The cream of brocoli soup? A little on the thin side, but VERY tasty. :-)

In other news: Links!

Let Me Tell You a Story
A link to Yuki_Onna who talks about being a member of the everyone-but-white!het!cis!men population and why the rest of us get so up in arms when we aren't reprisented in SF/F (or other stories).
It a beautiful peice on what stories are for and, as a writer, a reader, and someone whose studied a wack-load of mythology and religion, I'd say she's spot on. Writers (and everyone else), go forth and read. :-)

Also Awesome:
Jessica Valenti of Feministing presents: The Purity Myth, her book about the sexual double standard in the U.S. (and, by inference, here and in Europe, too) and how it's still screwing women, especially young women, over. Specifically by teaching young women that their ethical compass and personal value lies between their legs rather than in their minds and their ability to do such things as tell right from wrong.
The introduction to the book, which explains the whole thing in much better detail, is here.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand tonight there is a play party. It's for Q/T women, it starts at 8pm, and it's at Breathless.

So far, the turn-out is looking like it'll be a small crowd, which is kind of nice 'cause that means intimacy and, with any luck, me feeling less awkward.

Must (A) go eat, and (B) go re-pack the toy-bag. (Why I bring a toy-bag, I have no idea. I mostly just use my hands anyway, and there's no guarantee I'll be playing with anyone tonight. But hope springs eternal. ;-)

Will be wearing:

Berry (probably) camisol
Navy-esque fishtail skirt
Velvet shrug
Not sure which shoes yet - thinking of doing tights and my little boots with the o-ring detailing (which I'll be wearing over there, anyway), but might also do any of my Fancy Shoes (if I opt for the red ones, I'll have to change the shirt. Hm...)

But that's the plan.

I figure I'll leave my hair down. :-)

- TTFN,

Just putting this where people can see it. :-)
(I know -- Breathless doesn't typically excite me. But this? THIS excites me! :-D)
