So, technically, I got back on Sunday evening.
I just didn't say anything until now.

My grandmother's birthday went smashingly well. (My aunty Lois has informed me that I have to find a jazz band to sing with. Oh, dear... What happened to my lack-of-fear of performing?) My aunty Martha sang "My Romance", and I sang "Summertime", and we did a duet on "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" (heh - both my voice and my queerness come from her), and Marty - Martha's singing teacher, and honourary member of the Armstrong Clan - sang a campy re-write of "The Lady is a Tramp" featuring highlights from her life - at least in the time that he's known her (and did an encore of "Puttin' on the Ritz"). It was awesome! :-D My brother and my aunt Liz did toasts to the birthday girl (which she was very touched by - she said, later in the evening, that they'd said things about her that she'd never believed about herself - stuff like how she's brilliant and glamourous and tough as nails - all of which is true).

We had a lot of comments from the guests, saying it was the best party they'd had in the entire time they'd been there - "there" being her very fabulous seniors residence.
And it *was* pretty fancy, given the live music and the MC (my sister) and the on-in-the-background slide-show, and the cake with actual cream-cheese icing (rather than that sugary crap you usually get), and all. :-)

My brother camped out at my aunts' place, but my sister and I got to share a hotel room (we each got a double-bed to ourselves!!! Wah!) It was nice to be able to chat with her about Relationship Stuff - a thing both of us wanted to do, but neither of us wanted to do in front of our brother, our mom, or her boyfriend.

Unfortunately, the weekend ended on a less spiffy note: My grandmother - who is still alive, but has a lot of bruises - got up in the night, and her walker wasn't by her bed. She fell down, had to go to the hospital. She's got a possibly-fractured thumb, and some minor neck problems (this is the neck that she broke several years ago, I might point out). So. She's okay. But she's sore. And that really sucked. :-P

But it was *mostly* a great weekend. :-)

And it's been 24 hours, and I'm still damn tired from it. :-)
