Have been working on my mask.
Many years ago, I went to a mask-making day at a friend's place, and I started on this blue half-mask. It's got huge eye holes and is (now) covered in pearls and cowrie shells. I had started, way back when, adding yarn braids to an across-the-top-of-the-head strap, but found it to be (A) time-consuming and (B) boring, so I stopped. And it has since languished, lo, these long years, on various shelves around my various houses.
And today I took her out again - my Sea Queen - and started working on her again. Basically, I cut off all the cross pieces, and mave made "over the ear" ties (out of some of the braids). I'll be using the rest of the braids to make clip-on extensions -- possibly (if I can find some on the cheap) involving clusters of shells (or cowrie-flowers or what-have-you) that I can attach all over my head, and mix in with real braids and so-on.
I've got a tonne of cowrie shells left over from when I started this mask (plus a bunch in my beading bags, too) that I can probably rig into hair accessories or similar.
This is what looking at Trible Bellydance pictures will do to me. ;-)
However. Just now, I'm stringing beads.
I've (finally - last minute much?) figured out what to do for my annual ornament gift. (I tend to do things with bells). This year, the ornament is "jingle bell rock". Because I'm making them out of green stones (aventurine and moss agate chips) and silver jingle bells, and topping them off with a scrap of silver ribbon.
Yes, they are absolutely cobbled together out of "what have I got in my bead-box that I'm willing to give up for this". Thankfully, the ribbon makes them work. :-D
Anywhoo. I've got four more of these things to make, so I'd best get on them. :-)
- TTFN,
- Amazon.
