So, we did the CD yesterday. :-)
I'm rather excited about it, I must confess.
There's only four songs on it (well, five if you count the second version of Amazing Grace), but I think it sounds pretty good.
All of the the songs for-which I had accompaniment -- The two by Sarah McLachlan plus the one by Bette Midler (we found an instrumental version of "Wind Beneath my Wings on the Internet) -- were pitched *really* low in my range.
But I still did it! :-)
Heeheehee! :-D
"Angel" sounds good. It doesn't totally sound like me (because it's low and I'm in, or at least close to, my chest for a lot of it).
"I Will Remember You" was really fun. We actually transposed it up a step or two -- which sped the thing up --> it actually wound up sounding a bit cheerful which, I think, works nicely. :-) We put down three different tracks for that one, so I'm singing in unison and harmony with myself. It's interesting to hear yourself singing with yourself, I'll tell you that much.
:-)
"Wind Beneath my Wings" was... funny. The accompaniment we found for it ('cause the Karaoke CD, which might not be much better, won't arrive until next week) was, like, full-blown '80s cheese. Complete with reverb drums and everything.
But it didn't sound too bad when we were done, so I think it'll do. :-) I had to cheat with the pitches a little bit on this one, though -- again because the key was low --> I don't think this one would have sounded right had it been sped up at all. ;-)
"Amazing Grace" -- I did two of these, because I'm not sure when/why they want to play this piece for the funeral. So there's a very paired down accapella version -- I sang it with a G-above-middle-C note ringing in my ears to keep me on pitch, and then we took it out -- which might work for if they wanted something somber, and then we put on a pre-recorded version that I did at a concert in February --> this one has piano accompaniment, and swings a lot more. It would work for something a little more celebratory. :-)
Anywhoo. So that's the CD. I'm quite pleased with it. In part because it doesn't sound like it was done in our office. (Yay for the reverb button. ;-)
Paul did all the recording and mixing and engineering and everything. He did a really good job. :-)
I'd like to do that again. :-)
Anywhoo. That wasn't all we did yesterday. We also went out to see "wUNDERland" at the Fringe Festival. (I'd like to drop in on "The Fabulous Women", however I'd be seeing it on Sunday at 3pm if I see it at all, and I expect I'll be cooking at that point.
That being said, I could probably swing by Emily Pearlman's "Radio Collar" at 5pm today. That should work. :-)
Whee! Fringey Goodness! :-)
After "wUNDERland", which was pretty darn cool --> they had neat and slightly creapy puppets. :-) The Queen of Hearts looked awesome. As did Jack the skeleton-in-the-box. :-) -- But, back on track, after the play we walked over to Zak's diner and had a tastey dinner there. (I had a chocolate raspberry milk shake as well --> it was very, very yummy).
Then we swung by Redeau to see when Batman was playing (far too late for our taste) so we went home and watched "The Wedding Singer". It was really sweet. I like it a lot. :-) I particularly enjoyed the parts at the end that involved Billy Idol and the forming of a Plan. :-) Also, the song that Robbie wrote for Julia was really, really sweet. :-)
And that was our day. It was just about perfect. :-) Even the weather was nice. :-)
Yay! :-)
Anywhoo. I need to phone the Monterey Inn in a few minutes to see if we can get in to see the "Riverview Room" this afternoon. We'll see how that goes.
Hopefully we'll have heard from Paul's friend about what the food thing is actually about by tonight. (I need to do the groceries, so I need to know what I'm cooking). -- Thanks for backing me up on that, by the way, folks. :-)
I feel better knowing that it's not just me. ;-)
