Well, I feel a bit dumb for broadcasting this, (although, technically, at least one of you did ask me to keep the details coming), but here it is:
I'm having a china pattern dillema.
Ye Gods. (How on Earth is this a dillema???)
But here it is. The china that I was gushing about (hopefully ot too much, but I could be wrong) only a few weeks ago?
Well, now I'm having second thoughts.
See, I look at the Athena (regular -- very prim w/ platinum trim -- no rhyme intended) and I go: Kinda pretty, very respectable, will not over-power any of the food I am likely to serve on it. Good.
But I don't go "yes, yes, that's the one".
That being said, when I look at the Athena Black (much bolder pattern) I go: Now that is *really* cool -- but: Will I still think that way in three years? How about ten? Am I going to one day find myself setting the table for a lavish feast only to discover that I'm wondering how I could ever have chosen such a large, geometric pattern? (Well, okay, that isn't *that* likely, but I'm still worrying about it). Also, the Black tea cup looks like a sawed-off coffee mug, rather than a nice, rounded, bowl-shaped tea *cup*. (Snob? Maybe).
Also, while the Athena Black is dishwasher and microwave safe (Yay!!!), the Athena (regular) isn't (not that this is a shock, but being able to just throw them (gently) in the washer after a day and a half in the kitchen sure would be nice.
What I'd *like* to do, is get, say, two sets of both, and have the option of one or the other for dinners of eight people or fewer, and the option of mixing and matching them for dinners that are bigger than that.
So I ask you this: How wierd would it be for me to ask for two different (albeit related) sets of good china, giving me a total of 16 place settings? Also, Do I then go half and half on the coffee mugs as well? (Probably). I think I'd still get the coffee service in the Black, and the gravy-boat (Etc) in the Regular, but perhaps I should get one set of each for servingware? (I'd be getting two sets anyway, so I may as well). What do you think?
Help me, I'm feeling insecure! ;-)
