Well... This started out as part of a reply to Idioglossia, but it got slightly unweildy (and off topic), so I figured I'd turn it into a post.

It's about the lack of space and huge amounts of stuff (stuffstuffstuff! Stuffed with Stuff! STUFF!!! -- You get the picture) that are currently crushing both my house and my spirits.

Here's the situation.

Paul and I have four beds (not counting the futon that our tenant brought with him). We are using one of them.
Two of them (and the baby basinet that I had when I was a baby and will be putting our baby in, in about... two years) are taking up a huge amount of space in the 'storage/laundry' room. The third is crammed into the closet in the office.

I would, therefore, like either (A) a bigger house (because then we could just put this stuff in actual rooms, and maybe actually *use* it) or (B) a storage room at, say, the place on Uplands that I can litterally walk to from my house.

The benefit of the (currently un-attainable) bigger house is that, along with having enough bedrooms to hold all of our beds, we would (maybe -- provided we had a finished basement and a garage) have space for a work-shop/soap-shop and a craft/sewing room. Which would mean that all of our tools and fabric and notions (not to mention the freaking firewood and gardening equipment and snow shovel, and so-on) would have actual designated space *just for them*. As it stand, they have to be shoved into hard-to-reach crannies in the laundry room or packed into what's supposed to be the linen-closet, or stuffed into the drawers of the china cabinet. Plus, we'd be able to use those things *in* their designated areas, instead of, say, on the dining room table or the living room floor.

This what happens when your buying a house is contingent on (A) your mother downsizing, and (B) you being able to take on the down-sized furniture.
Not that I mind free furniture.
It would just be nice to have a place to put it, is all.

The storage room option, of course, is much more affordable. (Not affordable *enough*, but a more foreseable dream than getting a new house is at this point).

See, if we had a storage room, then the three beds (including the *massive* bedframe of my old bed), the basinet, and potentially the non-seasonal out-door tools, could be moved *out* of the house. Thus allowing for much more space in the laundry room. We could finish the walls, and install shelving and/or cupboards! We could maybe even set up a work-table for Paul, and a sewing/crafting station (albeit a small one) for me! The ironing board could be put somewhere other than right between the dryer and the door, thus removing a tripping hazzard! The crap in the dining-room would be thorouly reduced, thus allowing me to put, say, silverware or napkins or table-cloths in the china-cabinet drawers...

It would, effectively, provide us with the one extra room worth of space that we "need" by getting rid of the stuff we currently have *litterally* no use for (while still being able to hang on to it for when we *do* eventually get the bigger house, with the space for 2+ kids, an office (or two), a workshop and a craft-room.

Which would be nice.

Anyway...

I continue to whine. :-P
