Well, it's been a while, hasn't it? :-)
In recent news:
My friend Amanda came over and we had a lovely Mabon dinner -- it was going to be a simple squash soup w/ a bown of veggies for a center piece, but it turned into a veritable feast. Yay! And she showed me how to do a quick house-cleansing, which was handy. :-) (You'd think I'd know this stuff, but I don't.)
She made a really lovely altar by the window -- a sheaf of wheat in a vase w/ a burgundy velvet belt-thing around it (with gold embroidery), sitting inside a wreat I'd made (I hadn't glued the apples on yet, but now that's done and it's on my door) of grape-vine and autumn leaf garland, with a "carnival" squash (yellow, white, orange, and green speckles) sitting on the wreath's edge, and a trio of dried corn (red, dark red, and speckled yellow-orange) draped over the lip of the vase.
Really beautiful. :-) I took a picture. :-)
We had pasta w/ asperagus, mushrooms, peppers and goat cheese; squash soup w/ amaranth, red lentils, fava beans, sauteed mushrooms, spinach, garlic, and some other stuff (I can't remember what). And then we had baked apples for dessert. Also mulled apple cider and a bottle of beaujolais. Complete with the good dishes, including the crystal water glasses from Ami and the hand-painted goblets from my cousin, Heather. :-)
It was loverly! :-D
Paul and I had apple-cornmeal pancakes w/ apple butter and jam for breakfast the morning before. :-) It was also loverly. :-)
As mentioned above, my Autumn wreath is now made (pre-fab grape-vine wreath wrapped in autumn-leaf (w/ berries) garland, w/ little plastic apples stuck to the vine w/ carpenter's glue) and hanging on my door. It gets a bit smushed against the glass, but it's okay. :-)
Next project: Hallowe'en wreath, featuring:
Pre-fab grape-vine wreath
Crow feathers
Miniature fake pomegranits
Dried chicken bones (that I've washed carefully, of course)
The dried corn ears that were used on the Mabon altar
Burgundy (hopefully) fake crysanthemums
Potentially some ivy garland for a sacrificial-god aspect
Followed by: Hallowe'en Costume: I'm being on of the Bacchai. :-)
Ivy crown for my head,
Staff w/ Ivy stems coming out the top
Tiger-print fuzzy fabric skirt and shirt (similar to Gabby's from Xena)
Possibly a faux fur cloak (we shall see what the money is like)
Will be going to Brunch today at Uncle Louis' (restaurant), followed by attendance at the 4th annual Ottawa Pagan Conference. Not sure what to expect here, but curious to find out. :-)
Going to see Metalica w/ Paul on the 7th of October. This should be fun... but loud... ;-)
Paul's family Thanks Giving is Saturdy, and mine is Sunday, so this will be a very turkey-filled weekend. Yowza.
Lunacy on the 13th -- I've haven't been before, so I'm curious to find out what "experimental" means. :-)
Paul graduates on the 23rd -- I'll be attending, of course (there's a dinner and a dance afterwords. Whee! :-)
I'll also be going to my Mom's church bazaar to find a casserol dish or two and some baking pans. :-)
It's a good bazaar, the whole building fills up with stuff, and there's lots of yummy baking (and *fudge*) to be had. :-) Those of you in need of home furnishings should go. :-)
Location: 207 woodroffe ave -- 87 and 18 go right to it, just down the street from Carlingwood mall. Get there early (starts at 9am), although if you come at Noon, you can get clothes for a dollar or two per bag, rather than per item. :-)
It's where I got Greensleeves' velvet coat, and my two suits. :-)
And, after that, it's Hallowe'en! :-D I'll be doing a ritual with some friends of mine on the 30th, and then having fun dressing up and handing out goodies in my very own Haunted Hallway (if I can get the decorations together) with Paul on Hallowe'en proper. -- The handing out of goodies with be preceeded by a nice dinner w/ an Ancestor center piece for Paul and me. :-) I'm thinking of serving pumpkin soup in a pumpkin. :-)
And that's the plan for October. Whew! A busy month! :-)
