I've been thinking about what it is I like about Metal, and why it pairs so nicely with opera/orchestral music.
At first, I thought it was because both metal and operatic/orchestral music are way-over-the-top dramatic genres.
However it has come to my attention that both genres also strive for a certain degree of virtuosity. (Les Claypool, Buckethead, Kirk Hammett, Tom Morello, the gentlemen from Apocalyptica, the ladies of Season's End, Lacuna Coil, Within Temptation, and (formerly, as I understand it) Nightwish, and everyone involved in Cradle of Filth, just to name a few).
And I think that's the other reason I like the stuff so much. :-)
Three cheers to all of them, say I. :-)
In still other news: I just got the call-for-papers from the CNPC (to be held in Halifax this year). The theme, as I understand it, is "walking your talk / living your faith".
I'm thinking I'll submit for something on 'women's rites of passage', and making sure that what's outlined in those rites is lived-up-to in every-day life. I'll be working pretty-much entirely from the PoV of Goddess Spirituality (since that's my topic of study), but I think my findings (whatever they turn out to be) will fit across the community, regardless of sex/gender. :-)
And, oh yes: Still working on my Women and the Body lecture. I find I keep going in circles (everything is connected to everything else... I need to sort it out so that it all flows nicely and makes sense. :-)
Wish me luck. :-)
In some thoroughly non-thought-related news: I have my wedding dress fabric.
As planned, it's Royal Blue silk:
The skirt and most of the bodice will be made from 'peau de soi' (sp), which is a heavy, shiny silk fabric.
Dupionie silk (nubby raw silk) will be for two insets in the bodice, and also for a stole-thing that will look like off-the-shoulder sleeves, but can be removed to make dancing easier. :-)
Lots of fun. :-)
