Went to see the apartment on Cambridge at Gladstone.

1) The 85 is an unreliable-assed bus. Yuck!
2) As is the 14. This bodes considerably less well than I'd hoped from a getting-to-work-on-time stand-point.

3) The land-lady is personable, doesn't like intense paint colours (pastels <*shudder*> are fine, however)

4) The kitchen has *tonnes* of storage, and *just* enough space to hold the china cabinet, too.

5) It has more closet-space than any other apartment I've looked at (although this isn't saying all that much, I grant you).

6) The bedroom is big enough, but I may have to have one of the (goddamn electric baseboard) heaters taken out - or "unplugged" or whatever - so that I can actually put my dresser in the room.

7) It has a really big - though rather shaded - balcony (and is east-facing, so it won't get too hot in the summer). Also, it's an end unit, so I'll only have neighbours on two out of four sides. This is a good thing.

8) Due to the aforementioned electric baseboard heaters, the living room is closer to 12x12. It could still, in theory, be handled. But it would be tricky.

None the less, it's do-able. And it *is* available *immediately* which would mean I don't have to store my freaking stuff, and I could actually go in a paint (or at least paint *over* the hideous lime-green that's still in the damn bedroom)

I've got an application form. I will be dropping it off, all filled out and everything, tomorrow afternoon.

After I see the place at 151 Metcalfe.

Yes, Metcalfe is noisy. Especially at rush-hour.

However. It's one block from the library and two/three blocks from the transit way. A couple of blocks from the canal (and the redeau center) in one dirrection, a couple of blocks from Bank (and the Herb and Spice) in the other. I can get to the community garden without any problem.

Also, because it's an older building, it may actually be as "Spacious" as the fellow says it is. Which would be *awesome*.

It's $825+hydro, so a good $75 more expensive (once you include the hydro bill) than the Cambridge apartment. And it doesn't have a balcony.
Also, it's not available 'til november.

But - site unseen, granted - I think I'd rather live there than kitty-corner to McNabb Park. Jaknow?

So, we shall see.

In other, housing-related news: I called the Doral back, and they apparently have a waiting list for one-bedrooms, so I wouldn't be able to get BoozySmurf's place, after all.
Mo.

Oh, well.

I shall find somewhere to live. :-)

In non-housing-related news:
I'm meeting the delightful Ami_B in 45 minutes and getting her dinnah as a thank-you for the lift home the other weekend. :-)

I will be enjoy something appi/snack-like because, later tonight, I am getting fabulously dined by my vegan-chef friend Sara (watch for her restaurant, The Granola-Girl Cafe, opening on Bank Street in the next year or so) over at her house. Which should be PHENOMENAL! :-D

Must get wine. And/or Lemonaide.

Both seem like a good idea to me. ;-)

In other news: My sister is back in town. She is staying with me for the next two weeks, and then we'll see what happens.

I intend to get her to drive the truck to either the New Place or the Storage Facility (whichever it turns out to be), since she's here already. :-)

Anyway. I gotta go. :-)

Note: My name is already in for two new job-placements (both starting on Monday), so this is... making me feel more secure. :-)
