Because Queenie did it for me:
Comment on this post, and I'll tell you something I like about you. Then put this in your own journal, and spread the love.
Whee! Spreading the love! :-D
in other news:
One of my Goddesses, Maia, told me her name.
The others, I had to find the right names for them, but Maia made for damn sure I got hers right -- I'd look at the moon (totally transfixed by it/her) and I'd just hear, in my head, over and over and over again "Maiamaiamaiamaiamaia..." Until one day I kind of blinked and went. "Maia... Oh! That's your name!" At which point the constant repetition stopped abruptly.
so there you go. :-)
Anyway. I looked her up. I found, in my "Goddesses and Heroines" book (and a few other places) a reference to a "Maia" who was one of the Pleiads.
Now. The Pleiad Maia is (A) little to nothing like my Maia, and (B) largely knowns for being Hermes' mother and (strangely) for *not* inciting the wrath of Hera despite who she had her child by.
Maia and the other Pleiads are daughters of Atlas (a Titan -- aka: a pre-Olympian deity) and Pleione (allegedly another name for Aphrodite who *also* pre-dates Zeus et al.).
Note, please, that the Pleiads are named after their Mother, by the way. Also, every one of them was, er, "Wooed" (yeah, right...) by one Olympian god or another. <*cough*>politics!mistified<*cough*>.
So I'm wondering if my Maia is that same Maia, only several thousand years later, and acting more like herself? I don't know. But I figured it might be worth considering. :-)
Anyway. On with the sharing of the love. Comment and I'll tell you why you're cool/wonderful/fascinating/etc. :-)
- TTFN,
- Amazon. :-)
