Hi! :-D

I appear to be riding an upswing.

That's what happens when I spend my free-ish time drawing up house plans.

Oh, yes. I'm still thinking "houses", even though I'll be renting for the next little while.

Still thinking, specifically, of tear-down specials in Hintonburg (specifically that one on Armstrong Street) that can be replaced with Fabulous Eco Dream House(s) featuring rentable secondary suites and *everything*. :-)
(The Dream House now also features comissioned glass art on Elemental themes -- the place is quarter-call oriented, how hard can it be? - by Ami_B... either sun-catchers or actual chunks-o-window, but I'm not sure which yet... Probably sun-catchers as I'd be able to take them with me when I eventually lost my ability to climb the stairs every day).

It currently features 10' ceilings on the first and second floors, and 12' ceilings in the basement. The exterior is reclaimed brick w/ a cedar front porch and a cedar front-balcony (with a cedar-shingles roof). The roof, as always, is a big huge gainormous GARDEN with a patio + screened-in gazeebo (sp) in the middle and solar panels (for hot water and electricity) on the south-facing northern edge.
There are many, many, many built-in cupboards (under 5'-high, triple-glazed, well-sealed windows which provide excellent passive-solar and free lighting for me, my house-mates (whoever they turn out to be), and my plants).

The bathrooms are done in recycled glass tiles (the ones Arndis found -- hon, when I get around to *actually* drawing up the plans for this, I want you on that team) and, with any luck, will feature specially-comissioned raised-basin sinks (ideally made by PotBelly)

Grey water system, R2000 insulation, radient-heat floors, dryer-vent heat-reclamation-system (I don't know what those are actually called, but the hot air from the dryer is circulated through the house rather than being vented outdoors and waisted), and such-like are standard.
Main source of heat (besides the sun and the insulation) = high-efficiency, low-particulate, wood-burning "glass stove" -- basically a glassed-in fireplace with a stone chimney to hang onto the heat and some sort of fan system that helps spread the heat through-out the house. Not sure where I'd find such a thing, but if it can be done, I really want one. :-)

Floors are reclaimed hardwood and/or bamboo.

Kitchen has a large barfridge (or a full-size fridge, I'm not sure) and an electric convection oven. A mid-sized deep-freeze is also available (probably in the basement).

Top floor has three bedrooms + one full-bath (an en-suite in the Big Bedroom would be nice, too, but not - as yet - necessary).
Main floor includes a half-bath + laundry machines.
Basement includes two bedrooms/office-spaces plus a rec-room with a a full-bath (feat. a shower, not a tub). Utility room (currently listed as 15'x15'... hm...) is also down here. This is where the water-systems sort themselves out, where the solar bataries are located, and where the sump-pump is. The pump, I think, will feed into the grey-water system, if that's at all possible...)

Anyway. Those are my ideas. :-)

In other news: Someone came to see the house at 2:30 today, and someone else will be showing up at 6:30pm. I'm debating whether to hurry home, grab my brolly and flick on all the lights -- or not. It would be quite a near thing, and I don't think I'd have time to eat, either way...

We'll see how quickly I finish things up here.

In still other news: Got a note from Paul.

He's fiiiiiiiiiiiiine. :-)

So. No further need to worry about him. (Not that this'll necessarily stop me, but at least I know he's not moping around or feeling resentful, so that's good).

With any luck, I'll be non-mopey fairly soon, too. :-)

He sent me Draft One of the Separation Agreement. It looks more-or-less fine to me, so I told him so. :-)

Anyway. It's ten-to-five right now, so I think I'll try the hurry-home method. I may kill some time Emphatically Not Shopping at Chapters while the viewing is going on. :-)

- TTFN,
