So I spent the day making food with Sara. :-)

There's something really neat about how her body changes when she gets focused. It's neat to watch. She becomes more concentrated and... gets bigger, in a way. It's very cool.

I have now made soy milk.

I ground the soy beans and added the water and did the (eventual) straining.
It's (clearly) very easy. But I did it! :-)

I also made granola (also easy).

Basically, I did all the stuff that isn't an exact science. ;-)


Tomorrow, however (hehe -- apparently I'm her extra hands in Ottawa) I will be turning up at her house and she is going to talk me through making two kinds of soy cheese.
The one, I've already made once before. (And it's a spread, so it's dirt-simple -- take okara, add seasonings Like Woah, and blend. ;-)
The other, however, is a solid cheese of the sort that can be sliced and/or grated.
It involves agar flakes. :-\

She's far less worried about this than I am (which is, in fact, kind of nice. ;-)


I was saying to her on the phone: "Gosh, it's a good thing I had this week off, isn't it?"


(There's something inordinantly nice, albeit somewhat self-consciousness-inducing, about standing at the stove together, waiting for something to boil, humming "love me tender" - occasionally in harmony, and occasionally alternating lines - with our arms around each other. Like... I know that the cuteness levels in the immediate area are about to go critical, and I still want to keep going. ;-)


Anyway. That was my day. (I realized, around the time that I got home, that I'd left my screw-driver on her dish-washer. I'll have to get that back tomorrow).


Anywhoo. Feeling torn between making chocolate-macadamia!nut pound cake and just lounging in bed with a book... (I fear that the book is going to win...)
