I wrote a story today.

I wrote a STORY today!!! :-D

This is huge! It's even a good story! It came easily, and it's the right length, and I feel like it says something (and, okay, possibly it's saying something in a slightly too blatant way, but I can work on that) beyond "Characters get laid! YAY!".
I feel good about it.

I hope I continue to feel good about it during the editing process, and also that the anthology-editor I'm submitting it to loves it to bits and decides to publish it. <*fingers crossed*>

Feeling good about writing today. YAY! :-D

So, I stopped at the pharmacy today. To pick up hair dye.

Which, as it turned out, was on sale for $7/box. O.O

So I now have enough hair dye to keep me in the dark-red-spectrum for the next six-to-nine months. (That's three boxes, fyi. I don't re-dye *that* often). I'm thinking I'm going to use one of them this weekend, but beyond that we'll just have to see. :-)

In other news: I have submitted three pieces to Stone Telling in the hopes that they want them. (Here's hoping).

I've got a two-page list of Things To Do -- most of which arent' going to get done today, but a lot of which need to get done before the end of the month (mostly RHO stuff on that count).

I'm looking forward to Commodorified's Food Security Blog Carnival (happening late next week, iirc) and need to sort out what I'm going to write about that.

Tonight, however, Ghost and I are going for dinner and Harry Potter at her NPPP's house. So that should be fun. (I'll have to remember to dress warmly, as her place is pretty cold).

Anyway. That's where I'm at.

TTFN,
Amazon.
Have done some work.

Not nearly enough, as I've got a couple of emails I Should Have Done that are just not going to happen before Friday afternoon (not actually a big deal, but still).

There's a party tonight. We will be bringing brie. (Also crackers, mandarin-orange boxes, and a forgotten sweater). Will attempt to be at least slightly Fabulous. :-D

I now know where my shoot is happening tomorrow (yay), and need to throw together a kit-bag with stockings, a few pairs of shoes, and some makeup. Mostly, I'm just really glad that I have the location pinned down. <*phew*>

Started a new story this morning. It's only a page long, and the page is basically just chunks of text that aren't actually connected. But the idea is to write some steampunk porn about a York-born (Upper Canada) electro-biological surgeon turned horse breeder in Chebucto, Acadie who hooks up with a marine biologist (from Port-la-Joye, on Isle-Saint-Jean) at a conference. More or less. Happily-for-now ending with plans to meet again, that sort of thing.

Here's hoping it works. :-D

Time to shower and eat lasagna.

Today, I am writing poetry.

Go me! :-D

So, as you know bob, I have a couple of wordpress blogs.
I’ve got Syrens, which is my “professional kinkster feminist” blog (which I set up after accidentally totally Dangerous Women), and I have Urban Meliad, which is the blog I set up so that, when I wanted to “grown-up blog” about magic, paganism, crafting, gardening, foraging, and local food, I could do so and keep it separate from the kink/sexwork/gender-activism stuff.

And I find that between those two (which have both been getting badly neglected of late) and my hesitance (finally) to blog flat-out on LJ about stuff relating to Ghost and our shared romance and/or dynamic plus the external/semi-external stuff that affects it, I’m not being very talkative on here, either.

Granted, I think part of that is due to my doing contract work (eight days left!!!) all month, which leads me to not have a lot of time in the evenings to do All The Things (And having significantly more Things to do in the evenings, for that matter) and, just… yeah. Lots of stuff going on leaving not a lot of time for general slice-of-life or personal-musings blogging. :-P

I’m out of practice. I suspect I will get back in the swing of things as November wears on.

Why, you say? :-D

1) For the month of November, I’m going to combine Nanowrimo and Dablopomo and do a 1700-word to 2200-word post on Syrens every day on the subject of O/p, dominance, and/or entitlement. The plan being that, by the end of the month, I’ll have an appropriately-lengthy manuscript worth of blog posts that I can then edit Like Woah into a collection of 10-15 5000-word essays that I can then Beta like crazy and start shopping around to possible publishers.

2) The other plan is to write a Very Short Smutty Story (1000-1500 words) every week. Most of those will end up on Good Vibes Magazine, but some of them will get submitted to open-calls for anthologies.

3) Lastly, I need to also figure out what to do about Urban Meliad. (Because right now it’s sporadically updated at best, and tends to be posts on either Making Preserves or on Tarot Cards, and it’s really kind of wishy-washy on a lot of levels. Not so good).
I had this idea (back in, like, MAY, no less) that, eventually (probably NEXT November) I’ll take all those unpublished Local Food recipes that I wrote for, but never sold to, Vertamin (before it went belly-up), and combine them with essays on urban agriculture, local food, bioreeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeegionalism, urban foraging, and The Wheel of the Year (whether it’s Out as Pagan or not does remain to be seen, I have to admit. We’ll see where things go).
The plan, then, is to start upping the posting frequency on Urban Meliad and to try and theme my posts a little more consistently. Like do a craft-project/recipe post every Monday and a locavore/agricultural post every Wednesday, and a Thealogy/Faith post every Friday. Or similar. This way (provided I actually stick to this, which is going to be tricky some weeks, I know), I’ll end up with 52 Pagan Thoughts essays (including one for all the Wheel Days) and 52 locavore/agricultural essays plus 26+ super-seasonal recipes with-which to start piecing together the NEXT book.

So that’s more or less where I’m at.

I realize that I haven’t put ANY poetry in there, and that kind of sucks. Particularly since Honeyed Tongues has only ever done two shows (Queerotica I in late June 2011 + the POWER AGM in early July of the same year) and I haven’t written a poem in what feels like almost two months. :-(
So I’d like to do more on that, as well (it’s not like I don’t have an outline for what “We Are All Jezebel” is supposed to end up looking like, right?). I may hold off on that a little bit, though, in terms of scheduling. (Part of me is going “No! Do it now! Get in the habit of pouring poetry out of yourself every Thursday morning! Or something! Just like you want to get in the habit of writing Very Short Smut every Tuesday afternoon!”
So… Yes?

Oh. And post at least once a week to the VoV Blog as well, ‘cause that’s suffered a LOT in the past month and a half and I need to pick that up again. But at least those posts can be all of 300 words and we can keep right on trucking. So… there. Yeah. :-P

*~*~*~*~*

Basically, November is going to be Write Like a Thing Possessed Month, and with any luck I’ll just keep it up from there. Which would be awesome. This is my plan. Behold my plan, O Internets.
The Story from the new edition of Apex Magazine? It made me cry.

Well done, Shira Lipkin. Well done. O.O

Uh.

So, random internet poll:

Do YOU know who Charlie Glickman is?

Have you heard of Good Vibrations?

Have you heard of Good Vibrations Magazine?

Have you ever gone to the site and *read* Good Vibrations Magazine?

Do you know anyone who has?

I'm asking this because Charlie Glickman - who I respect as a smart, thoughtful, kinky-sexpositive writer and educator - expressed an interest in having me write for said online magazine. (Based solely on my twitter profile, as far as I can tell).

They pay 2 cents/word in store credit.

Which, normally, I wouldn't even consider. Unless they were a local grocery store.

Sex toys don't (at this juncture) pay my rent.

But Charlie has a really good reputation, and so does Good Vibrations (the store). I'm wondering if the magazine gets a lot of traffic just based on association.
Because, if yes, I think it would be a good way of getting my name out as an author and possibly finding (some/more of) my market (which is pretty niche-y, by the looks of things) in a way that doesn't involve self-publishing.

I will need to write him back and ask about site traffic and ownership rights (do they get First Printing, or is it Everything?).

Thoughts? Suggestions?
Hey, look! A writing contest that's looking for erotic fiction and poetry!

Naked Girls Reading - Literary Prize
So.

I have found a net-royalties-only (50%) e-publisher that is looking for gay, lez, and trans erotica (and YA -- which seems incongruous, given the circumstances, but hey).

I think I will send a query letter about my Rock Star piece, "Sweet Jane" and hope that they jump on it. If they do, I may see what I can do re: spiffing up (or just re-writing) "Crow Maidens" and see if they're interested in that, since they did mention paranormal was something they'd be interested in.

Thoughts? Anyone ever published this way before?

- Cheers,

So, this is me being inordinately excited.

The poem I wrote about Tithenai's winter tree? The one that got published on Bywords.ca?
It made the cut and is going into the summer edition of the Bywords Quarterly Journal! (!!!)

This is hyooooooje for me. :-D

I mean, one, it's a journal that is actually made out of *paper*. Which, for me, is a big deal. To date, I've pretty-much only been published online[1]. But, on top of this: they are going to pay me actual money. For both the poem and for reading said poem (and a couple of other pieces, enough to fill five minutes) at the launch on July 17th[2].

Anyway. So I'm, like, massively chuffed. I have no earthly notion how much they'll be paying me. It's "nominal", so I'm assuming it's, like, $5 for the poem and about as much for the reading. Or something. But even still. I'm getting paid to be a POET!!! This is enormous! :-D

Anyway. So I tweaked the poem a little bit (moved one word to a different line), and re-wrote my bio. So many people hate writing bios, but I kinda love it. It's like: "Who do I want to be for this audience?" It's like... Okay. When I went to University, I lived in residence for the first two years, even though I went to school in Ottawa. (My parents wanted me to have *some* independence, basically). And when I packed my clothes to move onto campus, I thought really hard about "who" I wanted to be. Clothes are code-words for tribes and phamilies, after all.
And I find that writing bios is similar. If I need a bio for Gourmandia, I mention being an urban organic gardener who's really interested in seasonal local food and permaculture. And I am 100% of those things. If I need a bio for an dyke-tastic erotica submission, I talk about being a queer femme and a model who's really interested in sex-work and gender. And I'm 100% of those things, too. If I were submitting a poem to the We'Moon calendar, I'd bio myself as a feminist animist and as someone who's practiced Goddess Spirituality for roughly half her life.
It's so... It lets me shine my own spotlight on various aspects of Fabulous Me that my audience will be most likely to relate to without having to put the censors on myself.

Anyway. I need to skedaddle. I've got recipes to write and porn to finish, plus I need to email my art classes and see if anyone needs to book a model in the near future. :-)

[1] Which is not to say that an online publication is to be sneezed at, it's just not something I can hold in my hand or put on my shelf and, later, point to and say "Look at page seven. That one's mine." Y'know?).

[2] At 2pm, at Collected Works in Hintonburg. :-D

The play was sold out.
Which is fine, as it buys us about two hours of down-time.

I have a dreadfully tickle-y throat. I think I'm getting sick. Fuck, I hate this. :-P

There's a peach cake (made with barley flour and no milk) in the oven. I hope it rises up nice and fluffy. My plan is to cover it in frozen (thawing) strawberries and bring it up to Raynepalooza, in lieu of garden plants (she's got most of what we have, and afaik does not want veggie seeds).

I think I need to make a big cup of tea. Yes. Tea.

I have uploaded eleven recipes. I have five more written, and four more to write, all of which need to be uploaded. This is not going to happen today.

I have a show on Sunday night. I need to get prepped for it.

Here's hoping I can write about fire.

- TTFN,
- Amazon.
Greetings!

Still writing on Ghost's netbook, but wanted to post. My erotica show is this Sunday (the 26th) at 8pm at Venus Envy (Lisgar, a few doors east of Bank). $5 gets you an hour of queer chick porn in literary form. :-) Doors open at 7:45.

I confess, I'm advertising the thing entirely on Facebook. :-\ I need to drop a note to the venue manager (Shelley) and ask her to list it on her events list as well.

I have another six poems to come up with between now and then, and not a lot of time in-which to write them. Wish me luck! :-D
Today I wrote 1000 words of fiction
2 drafted poems
AND
9 recipes.

Bwah. Writing for hte WIN. :-D
So. A little less than a year ago, I wrote a poem. Inspired by something Tithenai said.

It is now published at bywords.ca. I am exceedingly happy about this because (a) I don't get published that often, and (b) it gives me a better idea of the kind of stuff of mine that they are likely to accept. Also: That's ME! On bywords.ca! NOT IN A CALENDAR EVENT! :-D
<*flails*>

I know half the people reading this have won awards for their writing, or are published novelists, or are editors of their own poetry/fiction magazines, or, or, or, and I'm just a baby in the land of published writerliness. But I'm really, really, really excited about this! :-D

I'm waiting for the thunder (Oh, there's the rain).

This afternoon, I'm going to dye my hair while the rain pours. Hopefully it'll be done (or done enough) by the time my hair's been rinced that I'll be able to take a stroll up the street without getting totally soaked.

I'm loving that my heat is off and my balcony door is open (or was until just now -- the wild wind was blowing the spray into my living room. Big rain. Big wind. Come storm, come). YAY SPRING!!! :-D

Have a potential modeling client (new gallery in the neighbourhood is looking to do lifedrawing classes in the space, and gave me a shout. YAY!)
