Wheeeeee! :-)
The BPAL samples I ordered at my birthday finally arrived! :-)
I got:
Hellcat (the only one I've tried so far), Morgause, Blood Kiss, Mata Hare, Velvet, and Zombi.
Plus they also sent me Dragon's Hide (which I will have to look up... I'm curious now. Did anyone else get random free samples? I don't know if they sent it on purpose, or if someone else's order is now one imp short...)
Anywhoo. Hellcat: According to the site description, this involves: Rum, honey-mead, buttercream, hazelnut, and sweet almond.
What it smells like on me is:
Wet: You can catch what I think is either rum or honey-mead (cause I havent' smelled either of them enough to be able to identify the difference), but it's something alcoholic.
Dry: It smells strongly (but only close to the skin) of carmelized brown sugar (actually, it smells a lot like "wurther's original" hard candy, to be honest)
Later on, some sort of soapy/powdery floral scent takes over. You can still smell the brown sugar right next to the skin, but the floral smell can be caught within a foot of me.
I don't mind this one, although I'm not wild about it.
I asked Paul what he thought, and he said it smelled like some kind of flower, and that he got a "comfortable/comforting" feeling from smelling it.
So that's good. :-) I like smelling comforting, and there are a lot of food scents (allegedly) in this one, so I'm not surprised that it had that effect. :-)
Today, I'm going to try either Mata Hare or Blood Kiss. (Reviews to follow, clearly. ;-)
But first:
I'm having a dinner party tonight (so far five people confirmed, unsure about a sixth... Perhaps she will be the 'surprise' guest and bring good luck with her. :-) That would be nice. ;-)
So. I'm on call today at work. Hopefully I won't be needed (as that will give me an extra... 4-4.5 hours of prep-time), but in case I do need to go in, I need to do the following before 10:30am:
- Make brioche dough,
- Set the table,
- Wash and chop all the mushrooms,
- Assemble a pie (or possibly a fruit compote mixture... Still undecided -- although avoiding pie crust would be nice...)
I had a busy day yesterday.
I got up in the morning, and butchered a squash. (One of my big kahunas: My medium-sized (and earliest rippened) Ponka Butternut).
I steamed half of it (only half would fit in my steamer at a time), and chopped up the root-veggies for the roast. There is some of the squash in the veggie-roast, as well. (I still have to chop up the rudabaga, the red pepper, and the brussel sprouts for that).
Then I went to work.
After work, I went out to Carlingwood and got ("dinner" hah) and most of the remaining groceries I needed for tonight. (Still need vanilla yoghurt, but that I can get without too much trouble).
Then I went to a rehursal ('cause I'm singing at my Mom's church, twice, on Christmas Eve).
Then I came home, steamed the rest of the squash, and made squash soup (still to do: cook the mung beans and sautee the shiitake mushrooms) and squash puff.
Tonight, I still have Squash Gnochii to make. (Sort of a cross between dumplings and croquettes), and a stuffed Brioche. And mull the cider and the wine.
How will I fit it all in the oven???
I will most assuredly be running the dish-washer before I go to work today. :-)
And now: A little verse for all of you:
Yule Tide, Winter Tide,
The Tide of the year is turning;
Outside, the snow is flying,
Inside the Yule Log's burning.
:-)
Happy Solstice, everyone! :-D
