So.
Samantha recently posted a set of song lyrics in her live-journal. She does this fairly often, but is far from the only person on my f-list to do so.
But, it got me thinking:
Why?
See.
LJ is an interesting thing in that:
(A) It's a journal, so people put stuff in it that is significant to them for personal reasons. (They also put silly meme things and quizes in them, but that's something else entirely).
But.
(B) LJ is also a public forum, wherein one's posts (unless otherwise programmed) will be read by people you know (and people you don't know). I know there are people who read my journal who I can't, for the life of me, actually recognize. (This isn't a bad thing, mind you. ;-)
Anyway.
This makes me wonder about posting stuff like the entire lyrics of a particular song, without explaining why they are being posted.
For example, were I to post the lyrics of the Jay-Hawks song "All the Right Reasons", I would know exactly why I was posting them.
Everyone else would be going "huh?"
Whereas if I mentioned that Paul and I had slow-danced to said song in his basement within the first month of our dating each other, and that we would be doing so again this July 7th, with an audience of all our biggest fans (tm), then all the people reading the lyrics would have an idea of the context in-which they were to be taken.
:-)
Anywhoo. That's my comment on that subject. :-)
