My BPAL order came today! Whee! :-D

In addition to the six imps I ordered (O, Blood, Queen of Sheba, Dragon's Milk, Eden, & Wrath) the Lab also kindly sent me a freebee imp of Bastet. Conveniently, it was on my wish-list, so woohoo! :-)

I've only tried one so far, so here is my review for

Blood: Dragon’s Blood, Myrrh, Cherry, and Clove.

Well, it goes on like the smell of burnt rubber.
Damn.
I guess that's the dragon's blood -- Dragon's Hide (dragon's blood, smoke & leather scents) had the same effect on me. Which does bode well for Dragon's Milk and Wrath. But:

After 5-10 minutes the burnt-rubber smell goes away (which may mean I have to give Dragon's Hide another go) and the cherry comes on *strong*. Like cherry candy almost.

It fades out pretty quickly, which from my point of view is pretty good. There are enough 'no-perfume-please' places around town that a scent that doesn't travel far is a good thing.

After about an hour and half to two hours, the cherry scent slips a bit more into the background and the smell is a bit like... just slightly well-done short-bread (or possibly almond -- maybe due to the cherry still being there) cookies. I'll put that down to the cloves.

I put it on at 11:30am. Four hours later there was just a little bit of powder scent (and still the cherry, but very faint) lingering on my skin. I'll assume that's the myrrh, though I really have no idea. ;-)

It's pushing 7:30pm now, and the scent is completely *gone*.

Which means it's the perfect time to try another one... Let's see...

In the bottle, O smells like candy. (Then again, so does most of this stuff. ;-)
Dragon's Milk smells like... candy. But with a hint of pepper. Not too surprising -- O and Dragon's Milk both have honey and vanilla in them -- but O has Amber, while Dragon's Milk has dragon's blood.
Bastet smells slightly floral/buttery with a spike of almond extract (and it has almond in it, so that makes sense)
Queen of Sheba smells... wierd... like some sort of cleaning product. Uh-oh... I'm a little worried about this one. (The scent list says 'spices', but doesn't specify which one...) I think the greasy/buttery smell is the almond though. Like almond milk rather than almond extract...
Eden smells like... almost like a clean floral scent. (Fitting for The Garden, isn't it?) I think that might be the cocoanut I'm picking up.
Wrath... Alright, all I'm getting out of the bottle is that very perfumey burnt rubber smell that's the dragon's blood.
Note to Self: You can't tell about dragon's blood scents in the first ten minutes.

Right then.

O: Honey, Amber, Vanilla.
Hmm... Mmm... That's interesting... I think that must be the amber I'm catching. The throw's very good right now. Mmm... I like it. A bit perfumy, but not overly so. I can *definitely* smell the honey. And it actually smells *like honey*! Sweet and thick and goey. Yum yum. :-)
I like the smell of this one. It's making me giggle... and possibly blush. Er.
I mean, I've been warned about what this one does, but still. It's a bit surprising.
I don't want to mess this up by putting something else on.
Damn.

Oh, well. :-D
Dragon's Milk it is.

Dragon’s Milk: Dragon’s blood, honey, and vanilla.
(I'll be back in five minutes while I wait for the Dragon's Blood to clear...)

[Edit: Ten minutes later...]

Okay. The Dragon's Blood is dying down a bit, and I'm starting to smell the honey. There's a creaminess around the edges that suggests the vanilla, but not much.

O, in the mean time, has almost entirely faded away. There's a light honey scent on my skin. Don't know where the vanilla went.

I definitely prefer O to Dragon's Milk. (although the Dragon's Milk might last longer... We'll see...).

Bastet: Amber, Egyptian musk, fierce saffron and soft myrrh, almond, cardamom and golden lotus.

Okay, the amber's not as strong. Presumeably because there are so many more ingredients in this one. There's something bitter here -- the myrrh, or maybe the cardamom... And definitely something buttery. But I don't know what it is. It's a little bit perfumy. The amber, I suspect, or maybe a mix of the amber, the musk, and the lotus?

The almond comes out a bit more on dry-down (almond extract smell, not buttery... so the butter must be soemthing else... No idea).

Not sure how I feel about this one yet... We shall see.

Definitely like O and Blood! :-D
Woohoo! :-D

Anyway. That leaves the following three to try:

Queen of Sheba: Honey, almonds, and spices.
Eden: Fig leaf, fig fruit, honeyed almond milk, toasted coconut and sandalwood.
AND
Wrath: Dragon’s blood, black pepper, cinnamon & cloves.

I'll sort those out tomorrow. :-)
