:-)
We went to the concert last night.
The opening band was The Mars Volta.
Ye gods, did they ever suck.
Paul assures me that this was due (almost) entirely to the lousy mix, but agreed that it was aweful.
Seriously, they sounded like...
Like a super-pretentious high-school band who *thinks* what they're doing is really Cool and Avant Guarde (and thus, only cool, avant guarde people, like themselves, will Get It), but in reality are just playing three rather different songs at once and/or are not able to find a tempo they can all agree on and, therefore, just *sound* like they're playing three different songs at once.
It was pretty aweful.
However. Once they were gone (One hour of horror show, followed by blessed quiet and the lights coming back up), things got much better.
I quite enjoyed the Chili Peppers. They were good. And there were some super-pretty duets between... Flea and John ('cause I have to think to remember their names... Paul is the fan, I was just there 'cause we had free tickets. ;-)
But, yes. Those were truly lovely. I could have listened to them play *all night*, and it would have been beautiful. :-)
Also, they had kind of a nifty light-show going on (and *no* pyrotechnics! Yay!)
And no-one spilled beer on us, or anything! :-D
They did not, alas, play "Hard to Concetrate", but they did do "Parallel Universe" (complete with nifty dragon visuals), and that was quite enjoyable. :-)
I like watching the stars come out -- all the little lighters flicking on in the dark of concert hall. It's glorious. (Although more-so from the second balcony -- but granted, that was Metalica, and they get more lighters out, I think). Also, listening to *everyone* sing along with "City of Angels" (or whatever it's really called) was awesome, and lovely to behold. :-)
Anyway, that was my night. :-)
I am now listening to Loreena McKennitt, because she is balm to my ears as well as my soul. :-)
In other news, I have been trying to sort out the character of Bianca in "The Rose and the Glass". I think I will have to do some serious re-writing and adding of things in order to get her character established (clearly), but at least I have a better idea of what that character is. :-)
I also want to start writing my Snow Queen story. So perhaps I will do that first. :-)
- TTFN,
- Amazon. :-)
