Okay, so I'm bopping around Job Bank again, at the suggestion of my mother who says that the government isn't allowed to have contract-employees anymore (in one specific area of admin, I suspect... Like the ASes or something) and is actually for-real hiring.

"Is this true?" I hear you gasp.

Ha!!

Ha! Ha! Ha!!!

Apparently it's a huge lie.

There are *no* admin jobs being advertised within the government. *And* all the admin jobs I've come accross 'in the greater ottawa area' are (A) *for* the federal government, and (B) temp-jobs advertised through more freaking agencies!!!

I am very angry about this.
Why?
Because I'm fucking sick of agencies. They aren't doing *anything* for me. At all! (Even the one place that *got* me one, single day of work (in the past, what, four months?) recently called to say 'The references you're getting from the professors you TA'd for? We can't accept those. No reason why, we just don't think they count'.

Oh, the fury.

So now, when I see that a job is being put forth through a staffing agency, all I feel is deep suspicion, as in:
"You just want to put me in your stable and keep me there, don't you? So that you can show off your full roster of 'employees' for whom you 'find' work, isn't that right? You're not actually going to *do* anything for me at all! Lying bastards! I hope your building burns down![1]"

Anyway, so I'm feeling pissed off and sort of like I'm stuck screaming and banging on the door of Jobs that Actually Pay a Living Wage and there's, like, a bunch of people in cushy offices behind the door going: "Haha! She's still out there trying to get in! Bwaaaaaaaahahahahahahaha! Anyone else feel like going home early today? It's not like we're getting paid by the hour in here! Mwaaahahahahahaha!"[2]
And it really fucking sucks.

Not to put too fine a point on it. :-P

In other news: Dr. Paullus is going to Brantford (or there-abouts) at the end of March for an energy-healing conference (and to do some training with the healer from somewhere in central america, but I don't know where). So that should be fun. A bit pricey (due to the train costs), but everything else can be covered by vacation pay and/or by staying with a friend. So that's all good. Plus, with any luck (and at this kind of a conference, I'd say it's fairly likely) he'll get a couple of clients and sell a half a dozen books or so (or more!) and make back the train fare in a day (or, ideally, make back *more* than the train fare in a day! That'd be excellent! :-)

So that should be fun for him. :-)

Anyway, he'd be gone for about five days (and I would have to house mostly to myself. I don't know what that'll be like. Hm...

Which, in fact, segues into my next point fairly easily.

I was typing away last night, working a bit on Call to the Dance, and I realized I was checking lj and e-mail almost constantly. I do that most often when either (A) I'm procrastinating, which I wasn't since I was actually working on something, OR (B) when I'm lonely.
So... I think I'm lonely.
And I don't know why.

Boo. :-(

Anyway. So, that's my rather miserable opening post for the day.

In other, potentially happier news: I hear through the grape vine that BPAL is going to do some scents based on Good Omens. :-D How fun is that? :-D

[1]At night, with no-one in it, because I'm not actually feeling murderously angry (yet), but it would ruin your business and you'd have to start from scratch, JUST LIKE ME, so Ha!

[2] Note to people I actually like: I don't count you among the legions of pampered, self-righteous, twits who are, in my mental image of the world, laughing their asses off at me from behind the doors of their cushy office jobs. 'Cause I get to hear what your cushy, if occasionally precarious, office jobs are actually like. At this point, I mostly want a decent pay-cheque that won't burn my brain out to get, and won't involve comuting to Kanata or Orleans to get either.

Another succesful recipe! :-D

Chicken Curry Amazon

Take:

6 boneless, skinless chicken thighs, cubed
(or 2 b-less, s-less chicken breasts, cubed; OR 1/2can of chick peas, washed)

Add it to:

1.5 C orange/tropical-fruit juice
3 tbsp oil (veggie/soy/canola)
2 tsp each: curry powder, minced garlic
1 tsp each: taragon, basil
1/4 tsp each: ginger, (black pepper - optional)

Cook, covered, until chicken is cooked through (15 minutes on medium heat, I *think*, probably 7-10 minutes if you're using chick peas)

Add
1/2 a bag *well washed* spinach or baby-spinach (about 4C raw, loosely packed)

And allow to simmer, covered, *on low*, until the spinach has wilted but is still bright green (2 minutes, probably).

Add
1/2C orange/tropical-fruit juice
2/3C couscous

Mix until grain is well-blended with juice
Cover and allow to simmer for another minute or two, until the couscous has softened up and all the juice has been absorbed.

Mix well and serve. Would probably make a nice pita-filling or a not-too-heat-inducing meal to make during summer (it might also work as a cold dish, come to think of it. Experiment and see what you come up with. :-)
