Character Sketches ("Meeting Karen")

So.


Today was my last day at Ze Old Job.


Happily, Monday is my first day at Ze NEW Job (at Justice, on Sparks Street, 9am-4pm, if anyone's interested).


Which I found out about this afternoon around 1:20pm. :-D



In other news:

1) I finished the first (god-awful, seriously messed up, but still technically workable) draft of the BDSM story - currently titled "Meeting Karen", though I hope to hell I'll come up with a better title than that as the story gets better.
But the draft is done.
It's riddled with NOTES IN CAPSLOCK about stuff that needs to change (how the protagonist ran into her sub), or be cut (most of the Introductory Stuff about the Topping workshop - the lot of which could probably be referenced in passing in the Club Scene), or be added (mini kit in Angela's purse, doing her hair with little, tiny plastic hair-clips, stuff like that).


Also: Angela's Back-Story: I find I know a lot more about the sub she hooks up with than I do about her and, since the story is narrated by Angela, it would be a good idea to nail her personality down a little bit better. :-)

As you can see, I know a reasonable bit about her sexual likes and dislikes, but about her actual *life*? Not a whole hell of a lot.
Not that it matters hugely to the story, which is mostly about getting laid, but it would be nice to have in the back of my mind as I spruce things up a bit.



I have a Very Social Weekend coming up (again), which is kind of awesome, I think. :-)

Tomorrow: Housewarming party. (Must plan route!!)

Sunday: Pagan Brunch (w/ Reyl, right?), followed by picture-taking w/ Ami_B and Idioglossia. :-)

Yay! :-D

I'm exhausted just thinking about it. ;-)

[1] Why, yes. I did totally base her appearance on my two pretty-blond-androgynous obsessions-of-the-moment. Why do you ask? ;-)

[2] Inconveniently, a surrogate for me - at least I suspect this is the case.
Hey, I wrote her, so I would know, wouldn't I? :-P ;-)
This is the other reason why I need to figure her out more. I need her to be *her*, not *me!incognito*. I wanna write characters, dammit, not freaking mary-sues. :-P

[3] The reason it's a problem is because it means that Karen can't have (somehow) background-checked Angela before they met each other at the local fetish-y dance-night.
Now, I know this is a story, it's fictional, it's fantasy. BUT I also know that Karen has been doing this for a long time and knows *way* better than to just invite a random stranger HOME with her, and then let said stranger tie her up and hurt her, without making sure they're not Dangerous, first.
ALSO: If Angela has no social network, she's still stuck being a me-surrogate because she has no... no community-based identity.
If the only people she knows are the people at work - who she doesn't really know, and who don't really know her - then she may not really know herself because she can't see herself reflected in Those of Like-Mind around her. And, as such, I can't damn-well see her either! Ack!!!)
It's a problem. :-P
