I've been having a grand time all morning making more Solstice mixes. I've got the beginnings of a gothic-metal solstice mix (whee!) and a lovely, quiet one that involves a lot of acoustic instrumentals and a fair bit of Loreena McKennit, too. :-)

Good fun, that. :-)

This afternoon is the Vinyl Cafe performance at the NAC - I'm quite looking forward to it. :-D

Must also finish the tidy-up from last night. (This involves - thankfully - unloading and reloading the dishwasher. Possibly twice. ;-) So I'm not too worried about it. :-)

Last night went quite well, by the way. A small turn out, but a good one. :-)

Miss Ami gave me a lovely and wonderful glass garden ornament that is a humming-bird feeder. It's blue, with a little red flower on the top to get their attention. :-)

Miss Cat (and her fella) gave us a present that includes lube. <*raises eyebrow*> Now I'm nervous about opening the rest of it. ;-)
She also gave me a lovely mix of Christmas Music that Doesn't Suck. Woohoo! :-D I have ripped some of the tracks (Winterwaltz, Hail to the Holly King) to my hard drive and have incorperated them into the above-mentioned Solstice mixes. Whee! :-D

I, irritatingly, wasn't able to find the Tori CD I burned for Bronwyn - blast it! But hopefully I'll have it found before the triple-birthday-party in January.

Bronwyn's pomegranate cookies went over wonderfully. My ginger snaps are snappy and spicy. The gluten-free hazelnut cookies that I made (based on Bronwyn's Anything Cookies recipe, but heavily altered) not only didn't suck, but were pretty damn tasty. I'm quite pleased with them. :-)

Gluten Free Hazelnut Chocolate Cookies

Cream together:
1 egg
1/4C margarine
2 tbsp amaretto syrup
1/2C granulated sugar

Stir In until well blended:
2/3C ground hazelnuts
1/3C cocoa
1/2C corn starch
1/4 tsp salt
1/2 tsp baking powder
1 handful skor-crumbles

Drop by the teaspoon-full onto a WELL GREASED cookie sheet and Bake at 350F for... 10-15 minutes (may take longer, depending on the oven).
Allow to cool for a minute or five before lifting off the cookie sheet (with a metal flipper) and allowing to cool the rest of the way on a brown paper bag. :-)

Note: because they're made with corn starch, you may find they're a bit powdery-tasting. Have them with a glass of milk (or a latte or whatever. ;-)

Oh, and: In the fine tradition of musical appropriation:

The Holly and the Ivy

1) The Holly and the Ivy
When they are both full grown,
Of all the trees that are in the woods
The Holly wears the crown

Chorus:
The rising of the Sun
And the running of the deer,
The singing of the merry lark,
The turning of the year.

2) The Holly bears a blossom
As white as any snow,
And we all sing at Solstice time
That winters come and go.

Chorus.

3) The Holly bears a berry
As red as any dawn
And we all sing at Solstice time
The wheel is turning on.

Chorus.

4) The Holly bears a bramble
As sharp as any thorn
And we all sing at Solstice time
The Sun, again, is born.

Chorus.

5) The Holly bears a leaf that's
As green as Summer's grass
And we all sing at Solstice time
That Winter's rule shall pass.

Chorus.

*~*~*~*~*

Anyway. I need to unload that dishwasher, and eat something other than cookies. (Most likely left over fig-and-chevre hors d'oeuvres. ;-)
