So, Palimpsest, by Catherynne M. Valente, came out yesterday.
The pictures Idioglossia did of me (including the gorgeous one which is currently my icon)? Those were for the grass-roots promotion of this book.
Here's what Catherynne M. Valente (AKA: Yuki_Onna) has to say about grass-roots promotion and the fact that Palimpsest has hit #256 overall on Amazon.com and is #10 in general fantasy, #6 in contemporary fantasy.:
It means that all of our tribal activity and mad striving works. It works as much and more than a corporate machine. We, you and me, can move mountains. Every time that book goes up over a Charlaine Harris or a Terry Goodkind, it's saying to publishers: these kinds of books can succeed. Do not stop buying them. Do not assume they are doomed. Love conquers all. For real and for serious.
MWAHAHAHAHA! Take THAT, Corporate Machine! :-D
There is an LJ community for this book: http://community.livejournal.com/immigrant_punks/
Aaaaaaaaaaaaand there are promotional goodies that YOU can win, courtesy of Naamah_Darling.
What it's about: Why not read the interview with the author? She'll tell you all about it! :-D
What do *I* think of Palimpsest?
Gorgeous.
Catherynne M. Valente writes like Amanda Ganon or like Clive Sinclair. Lush, thick, rich, sensual prose that reads almost like poetry. If you like the Kushiel series, or if you are partial to China Mieville, you will like her work. It's gorgeous!
EDIT: She's going to be a Worldcon. That's right. Neil Gaiman AND Catherynne M. Valente for one low price, in Montreal!
