Okay.
So.

Having read all of your very helpful comments (they totally were, too), this is the new plan for the bathroom:

1a) Paint the counter-top a metalic pewter. (This will require spray cans and special primer). Seal it all with a really good clear-coat (or two).

1b) Paint the cupboards a high-gloss (or metalic) forget-me-not blue. If I go high-gloss, I can use a brush -- probably cheaper, but also easier to get the non-door parts of the cupboard. -- Do I need to clear-coat this, too? (Maybe...)

1c) Paint the existing (very 70s, but still quite functional) cupboard-hardware in the same metalic pewter as the counter-top, and re-attach (sp) to the cupboards.

1d) Replace the current wall-paper border with a forget-me-not-blue band w/ a subtle silver swirly design (or something like that) in it. :-)

1.1a) Register for towels, shower curtain, bath mat, etc. in forget-me-not blue and black, also chrome and black bathroom accessories.

1.1b <aka "Plan B">) Purchase them myself if we don't get them as gifts.

2a) At a later date (possibly May 2006) re-tile the bath-tub stall with the help of the illustrious Ami_B. :-)
use 4"x4" (or 6"x6") white square tiles for the majority of the wall.
Accent with a band of 1.5"x1.5" forget-me-not-blue and black (alternating) "sea glass" tiles. (Clear glass would be an acceptable alternative).
Question: I wonder if I could get pre-fab band (1.5" high) of "mosaic tile", checkerboard style, in those colours... Any thoughts?

3a)Redo the flooring... Possibly by painting it (it's peel-and-stick tiles) with white(?) lawn-chair paint. (Paul's idea -- It might work, or it might not. Again, any thoughts?)

3b) Touch up the wall-colour. (I think it might be "off white" rather than "white" right now...) Use Eggshell (semi-gloss, doesn't show finger prints) white paint. :-)

what do you think? :-)

Now... What to do for the kitchen... Hm...

Perhaps...

Black and White (peel and stick) tiles...

Paint the cupboards in semi-gloss black (egg-shell, again), and then paint the *inside* of the cupboards in a fairly matte-finish royal blue...

White 4"x4" tile back-splash w/ 2"x1" royal blue glass accent tiles.

Paint the counter-top in a high-gloss white. Put a clear top-coat on it that is *safe for food*!

This will give me a black and white kitchen with blue accents. I'll just have to get some blue (and/or turquoise) towels and stuff, now. :-)

What do you think? :-)
